  This material is a non-fiction text about   the tooth traditions all over the world. The text starts with the functions   of our teeth, followed by the introduction of how people do with the baby   tooth in such countries like China, US and UK and Brazil. Students will find   the text attractive and fun to read. And since they are familiar with China’s   tooth tradition, they will reflect on their own experience of dealing with   baby tooth and be engaged in the reading process. The text should be made   full use of to facilitate students’ understanding and internalization about   different cultures, and the cross-cultural communication as well.

Learner analysis

  Learners are from Grade 6. They have   learned English for more than three years, so they have some basic English   knowledge both in the language itself and cultures. This text is interesting   and instructional for students. Students can relate to it when it comes to   China’s tooth culture and tend to be curious about that in other countries.   Meanwhile, they can express their unique feelings and opinions. Their reading   skills need to be high lightened. The more attention will be paid on their   thinking abilities and cross-cultural communication skills.

Teaching objectives

  At the end of this lesson, students should   be able to:

1.Get to know the tooth traditions in different   countries through the trip of the little tooth and try to act it out.

2.Learn to read cooperatively and individually and   guess the meaning of related words about teeth and tooth traditions in the   context.

3.Think logically and critically by comparing tooth   cultures in different countries and express their opinions about them in a   unique and relatively objective perspective way.

4.Understand, respect and appreciate the charming   varieties in cultures in all regards via the little tooth’s Culture Report   about his travel.
